● Herpes Simplex Viruses (HSV)

Herpes simplex viruses (HSV), which is a virus that causes infections, are categorized into two types: herpes type1(HSV-1) and herpes type2(HSV-2). According to WHO (2022), there are around 3.7 billion people under age 50 (67%) have HSV-1 infection globally, around 491 million people aged 15-49 (13%) worldwide have HSV-2 infection. HSV-1 usually causes sores around the mouths and lips; whereas HSV-2 usually causes sores on the genital (private parts). HSV-1 can be spread through kissing or sharing objects, includes toothbrushes and eating utensils. HSV-2 generally caused by sexual contact even if the skin looks normal and is often transmitted in the absence of symptoms. Infection with HSV-2 increases the risk of acquiring and transmitting HIV infection.

Most HSV infections are asymptomatic, but symptoms of herpes include painful blisters or ulcers that can recur over time. It is significant to distinguish the infection of HSV-1 or HSV-2 for further treatment.

ZBI’s HSV-1/2 Nucleic Acid Assay using patent nucleic acid RNA detection platform, which improve the sensitivity and specific and shorter the detection time, is a trustful choice for clinical use.
